Irish Fest attendees were exposed to a good deal of hurling over the weekend of Sept 18, when Indy Hurling hosted a booth and put on its yearly Irish Fest hurling tournament. Indy's Irish Fest is in its 14th year and was voted Nuvo Newsweekly's Best Outdoor Festival.Indy entertained scores of onlookers with a two-round tournament held over Friday and Saturday. Thanks to IUPUI, the field immediately adjacent to the festival's enterance was available for our games. Although the players were still weary from their recent Boston trip, the games remained competitive and fast. Except during the first round. The only things better than the Pat Flynn's team winning the championship game by one goal over league-darling Connors were the weather, attendance, festival atmosphere, grass, officiating, and lack of injuries.
Meanwhile, inside the festival, our booth attracted sports-fans of all ages. This year we added a hitting cage to our display where folks could try their luck at the hurl.
It was our pleasure to introduce our club to many people from the area, as well as a handful of Irish-born Hoosiers. We look forward to working with Irish Fest next year for more of the same, only better.
