Fall League Blasts Off
Three teams collide as hurling action reignited for fall
Sunday, Oct 11
The first day of Indy's Fall League was a brilliantly windy affair attended by the usual gang of dedicated hurlers, plus a fresh crop of Fall newbies.

The summer league's Connor's and Pat Flynn's teams united to spawn a green-tinted team, which took on Brockway for the first game of the day.  True to tradition, Brockway succumbed in blow-out fashion to the wonder-twin powers of the summer's first and second place finishers.  Rudy sped around like mad, dominating hapless midfielders with tremendous play on both sides of the ball.  His mortal side was exposed however, when Joe Landman crushed his would-be point with a perfect block in the second half.  The defensive fervor was contagious, prompting newbie Patricia - quiet librarian by day, fierce hurler by night - to charge full force toward a Peter Baird puck-out and perform a textbook block of his hit in a startling show of courage and poise.  It was a day that will live in infamy in Peter's mind, right up there with the day Louie Landman hooked him.

Brockway's tough luck continued in the second act when they faced a fresh Goose team.  Ciaran and Mathes voided the Brockway offense, directing a defense which surrendered few points and fewer goals.  On the other side of the field, it was a typically solid game for Goose's offense, which consistently struck passes and points at will from varied positions.  Other than a particularly nice catch by Nate at midfield, there was not a lot to celebrate in the second loss for Brockway that day.  However, Brockway maintains a deeply talented roster and could easily regain composure and take over this league next weekend.

The day's remaining undefeated teams - Goose and the Green Composite - battled it out in the finale.  By then, the scorching October sun had melted the field of patchy grass, and the ball began flying off the hurls like lightning.  Especially toward Goose's goal.  The Green Machine jumped out to a lead of multiple goals in the first half despite desperate efforts on Goose's back line.  Louie happily acknowledged that he enjoyed his stint in goal for Goose, which dragged on at his team's expense.  In the second half, Goose developed a rhythm on offense and nearly made a close game for Green; but for the valiant players that day, it was to be too little too late.

Standings after Round 1:
Green Multi-pass: 2-0
Goose: 1-1
Brockway: 0-2
