Pickem Challenge Recap - Week 5
Pickem Challenge Recap - Week 5
Halfway point of the season...
Week 5 of the 2016 Hurling Season is in the books and we areofficially at the halfway point of the competition. Adam Speer remains at the topof the leaderboard in the Indy GAA Pickem Challenge, but his lead is shrinkingdue to some unexpected results in the previous two weeks. Jason Mulvey, JillianBeyke, and Jeremy Fagan are only two points back from Speer with Hugh Kelly andThe Swami within striking distance. Week 5 was a hard nut to crack with theaverage correct picks only 3 out of 6. Jillian Beyke, Paul Romer, and SarahSaft had the highest total for the week at 4/6. It should be an exciting finishto the season as the competitors fight it out on the pitch as well as thePickem Challenge! Let’s take a look at the games…

At 10:00, Triton Brewing hoped to get their first win of theyear against fellow brewery Daredevil of Speedway, despite only receiving 19%of the picks. Bolstered by a new sideline Trident, Triton raced around the Devilsto finally get into the win column, winning 5-23 to 1-13. Another upset wasbrewing on Field 2 as Bent Rail Brewery looked to shock a short-handed Langton’ssquad. Langton’s was the unanimous pick to win the game, but Bent Rail ignored allthe pundits, and recorded a big victory 6-15 to 4-11.

At 11:00, Connor’s Pub received 94% of the picks to win overHotel Tango/Wilks & Wilson. Hoping to kickstart a new winning streak, afterthe previous streak ended last week, Connor’s danced away from a tough Tangoteam in the second half to win 5-13 to 3-6. In the second game, HealthSolutionsof Carmel took on 9 Irish Brothers. Entering with 88% of the picks to win,HealthSolutions took control with constant aerial attacks and tough defense, winning5-24 to 4-11.

At noon, Renner-Nixon Body Works faced off against a SmokingIron Alterations team trying to get back to their winning ways after starting3-0, but losing their last two. With 94% of the picks, Renner’s had their eyeon staying undefeated and was able to dispatch the Smokers late, winning 5-10to 2-10. In the Sunday Doubleheader, Langton’s and Daredevil were both lookingfor their first win of the day after two prior upsets. Daredevil entered thegame with 13% of the picks and hoped to add to list of upset winners in Week 5.As the rain and clouds rolled in over the pitch, Daredevil took control of thegame and gave Langton’s their second defeat of the day, winning 5-11 to 4-9.

Everyone gets a bye next week as the season takes a breakfor the Cusack Invitational in Chicago, and Week 6 will recommence on May 22ndat Eugene Burns fields. There’s still 30 points available this year and it’sstill anyone’s game, so make sure to get your picks in by Sunday May 22ndat 9:00am. Happy Mother’s Day!
